Notes
An asterisk next to the
item denotes a required item to take the field
Where decent
reproductions are available, repros are preferred. This is due to the
concern over destroying historical items, which should be avoided when
possible. Where the repros are not available or not of decent quality or
reasonable price, original items are the best option. Originals are, of
course, always acceptable.
Authentic footwear
has now become available. All members should replace what they were using
during the absence of reproduction AEF footwear.
Much of the equipment
must still be original due to lack of suitable reproductions.
Original gas masks
may be carried, but are not recommended for use, owing to their fragility
and the possibility of gas contamination. Repros are the better way to
go, and the repro SBR is the preferred initial purchase, though carrying
both the SBR and M2 is authentic. Original bags for the SBR is preferable
to the Brit repro bag.
Weapons are also
mostly originals, though blank firing M1911 pistols may be used.
Personal Standards
Grooming: Hair must be cut neatly in a
military style, short and tapered. Crew cuts are most correct, but not
required. Long hair is not permitted. Facial hair is limited to a well trimmed
mustache not extending beyond the lips.
Conduct: You should be prepared to
function like a soldier. You will
receive instruction as to many aspects of the life of a US infantryman in
France in 1918, but you must come in with a healthy attitude and respect
for the portrayal and a willingness to fit in, and do your part. Authenticity extends beyond material
issues and appearance; all aspects of the portrayal are required, for you
enjoyment and that of the men around you.
